What the extension is

Aangan Sender is a Chrome extension made by Invifest for couples who use Aangan, Invifest's wedding portal. It sends the invitation messages the couple prepared and confirmed in Aangan through the couple's own WhatsApp Web, one guest at a time. It has no account, no server of its own and no analytics.

What it handles, and where it stays

The queue you confirmed. When you press Send in Aangan, the page hands the extension the guests you ticked: a name, a phone number and the message written for each. The extension keeps this list in Chrome's local extension storage on your computer, only for as long as the run takes, and uses it for one thing: opening that guest's chat in your WhatsApp Web and pressing Send. It does not transmit this list anywhere. The guest list itself lives in Aangan, under Invifest's privacy policy.

The result of each send. Whether a message went, or whether WhatsApp said the number is not on WhatsApp. This is kept in the same local storage until your Aangan page has recorded it, then removed.

Whether WhatsApp Web is signed in. On web.whatsapp.com the extension checks one thing: is the chat list there, or is the page waiting for a code. That is all it learns about your WhatsApp account. It reads no chats, no contacts, no messages and no profile.

The message box, and WhatsApp's own dialogs. To confirm a send, the extension checks that the message box holds the message it was given and that it emptied after Send; to know that a number does not exist, it reads the text of WhatsApp's own dialog. Nothing is stored from either.

What it does not do

• It does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. Nothing leaves your computer through the extension.
• It does not track how you browse. It runs only on web.whatsapp.com and on karigar.invifest.com/aangan, and nowhere else.
• It does not send a message you did not confirm, and it does not send to anyone you did not tick.
• It does not use your data for advertising, for measuring creditworthiness, or for any purpose other than sending the invitations you confirmed.

Permissions, and why

• storage: to keep the confirmed queue and its progress on your computer while a run is on.
• alarms: to wake up every half minute and send the next guest at a human pace, even when the WhatsApp tab is in the background.
• tabGroups: to mark the WhatsApp Web tab with a gold "Aangan is sending" group while a run is on, and to unmark it after.
• web.whatsapp.com: to open each guest's chat and press Send in your own WhatsApp Web, and to show the progress bar there.
• karigar.invifest.com/aangan: to receive the queue you confirmed on your Aangan page and to report progress back to it.

Keeping and deleting

Everything the extension holds is in Chrome's local extension storage on your computer. Stopping a run clears the queue; acknowledged results are removed as they are recorded in Aangan; removing the extension from Chrome deletes all of it.
